But the most important thing is that the website is optimized in the first place, otherwise the potential to reach your audience is diminished. This is known as Search Engine Optimisation or SEO.

First a little background, it is REALLY important that your website appears on the 1st page for any search keyword or expression that is important to the success of your business. If you are NOT on the 1st page, you are probably not going to be tapping into your market as well as you might.

We live in time-precious days, and people want instant answers and will make quick decisions. If they see you in their eye line within the first six returns on a page search, once more you are more likely to trigger responses.

Where do you rank for important keywords and phrases.

What is the overall “rank” or standing of your site and not just with Google either!

Whether your site’s title is accurate and fits the aims you have.

Do you have enough variation on keywords to match all the different phrases people will search for? Oh, and if you have heard keywords don’t matter any more, well, umm, that’s not correct. They are NOT as important as they were, but they do still provide definition and can give you an advantage over your competitors.

And then the description of the site, or page within your site. Is this correctly formulated? Is it too long? Too short? Let us tell you.

And then on the page itself, do you have the correct tags and are they in keeping with the title, the keywords and most of all the description? If not, more potential for failure.

Then when it comes to articles or content on your site, do they have enough "key word density"?

We will then assess whether you have the right page structure. Getting the correct permalinks or page extensions for your key products or services is also a very important thing, and often overlooked.

If you have blogs, are they correctly set up? Do the core keywords in them match the main site? Or have any core keywords been inserted at all?

Then there is links. Have you had someone “buy in” backlinks from what is known as backlink farms? Very dodgy and potentially very damaging.

If you have mutual links, are they with relevant players in your own market or segment? If they are not, they can damage your standing.

Some SEO consultants insist you should only have mutual links with high ranking sites. Is this true? Let’s us explain the myths and the reality around this.

And do you have any one way links to your site? If these come from reputable directories, listing sites or external blogs or article publishing sites, they can be really valuable? What are the state of yours?

Do you have the suitable monitoring set up on your website for traffic, for management of your SEO and are you looking beyond just Google for SEO capitalisation? All very important.

What is anchor text? Can it help you and do you have it?

Can social media really help you? What have you got and how well is it set up? Are there tricks that are being missed meaning hard work is being poured down the drain?

What are you doing in relation to your main competitors, and what are they doing?
